Food Imbizo

Imbizo [ɪmˈbiːzɒ] – a gathering or a forum for discussion and decision making.

The Food Imbizo is a collaborative learning network connecting a group of people who are concerned about the way that food is governed in South Africa. We aim to interact regularly, build networks, share information and to develop new knowledge that we can take into our individual practice as well as inform wider decision making.

We hold regular online meetings to examine particular aspects of the food system from different perspectives and also convene workshops to complete specific ad hoc tasks such as drafting policy briefs.

Our last meeting was on 26 April 2022 exploring the concept and practice of Food Sensitive Planning and Urban Design. Read the report here. Watch the video recording here.

Prior to 2022 our meetings and workshops were held under the auspices of the ‘Food Governance Community of Practice’.
