World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue Breakout Session

While African food systems are fragile, opportunities exist to unlock the
potential of research in enhancing resilience, food and nutrition security,
health, and environmental sustainability. The breakout session presents the
Food Systems Research Network for Africa (FSNet-Africa) framework for
food systems transformation. It frames the African food system in the
context of a fragile global system but presents an action-based approach to
addressing fragility in a developing context.
The FSNet-Africa team (including mentors and fellows) will have a panel
discussion that will demonstrate how research capacity development and
boundary-spanning partnerships can be harnessed to identify and
implement climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive, and poverty-reducing
solutions for food and nutrition security.
Based on the FSNet-Africa model and the FSNet-Africa food systems
research framework, the session will propose a modality for achieving
multidimensional food systems outcomes through an integrated research
and capacity development approach. The session further demonstrates how
partnerships that span geographic, disciplinary and sectoral boundaries can
be leveraged as a mechanism for impact.
